Club History

About Us

The Jersey Knights Soccer Club was founded as the Central Jersey Cosmos in 1989 and changed their name to the Jersey Knights Soccer Club in1992 with three teams, The Club evolved in 1994 to 6 boys teams and its mens program continued to expand into all competitive age groups, U-9 to U-23. The women's program, founded in 1998, also has expanded to all competitive age groups.

The Club was founded by Mike Knoth, Jim Martin, Ralph Andrews, Art Latanzio and Bob Reasso.  Our philosophy is that clubs should train players not just teams. it has been our cornerstone. To that end we set out to provide our players with the best professional coaching and training available.

From the beginning, it was a requirement that all of our coaching staff was licensed and experienced in play as well as coaching. Our coaches and trainers come from the various colleges and high schools from around New Jersey. From inception, parents were prohibited, with rare exception, from occupying positions on the coaching and training staff. Over time, we have discovered that team management was as important a team function as coaching and parents have served well in that capacity. In addition, a board of directors oversees club operation.

Today, Pedro Lopes and Mike Knoth  serve as our Directors of Coaching. Pedro oversees the men’s program and has a wealth of experience that includes Division 1 coaching assignments at Rutgers University and NJIT. Mike Knoth, one of the founding members of the club, is nationally licensed and has over 25 years experience as a high school coach and many more as a club coach.  A very high percentage of his players have gone on to successful college careers

The Clubs' emphasis on development has produced numerous alumni who have gone onto successful collegiate and professional careers as players and as coaches. Tim Howard, member of the U.S. National Team and current starting goalkeeper for Everton in the English Premiership was on of our 1st "graduates". Jeff Zaun formerly of the Metrostars and the Chicago Fire , Tim Mulqueen of the Kansas City Wizards , JD Martin of the Chicago Fire, and Dustin Shepard of the Metrostars have had success in professional leagues as players and coaches. Scores of our former players both men and women currently occupy the college ranks on all levels with a significant number playing at the Division I level.

The club operates both men’s and women’s teams in ages U8 through U23. As well as programs for younger players ages 4 thru 9 including JK Elite, The Training Club, Little Knights, Ball Skills training and Speed Training.  In addition, our Jersey Knights College Prep Program provides players and parents with guidance and information to help families through the college process. Our professional coaching staff includes college and high school coaches from around the area.
